Block a customer once. Checkout stops them before they pay.

Bouncely keeps a list of people you chose to block, usually customers who filed a chargeback. When one of them comes back, Shopify's online checkout shows them your message instead of taking their payment. Everyone else checks out as usual.

Example: order #1047 in Shopify admin has a Chargeback badge. More actions opens Block customer, a form with the customer's email, phone and shipping address checked and their name unchecked, and the reason set to Chargeback.

Example: on their next visit, Dana types danaruiz+new@googlemail.com and writes the unit as #4. Checkout shows the store's message, "We can't accept this order. Please contact us if you think this is a mistake.", before payment. Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal are on the same page.

Someone you blocked sees your message and no order is placed. Bouncely's block log shows Dana Ruiz, matched on email and shipping address. Any other customer completes checkout as usual and Bouncely records nothing.

On the disputed order, choose More actions › Block customer. Email, phone and shipping address come in checked. Name starts unchecked, because a name on its own can match someone else.

Try to sneak past it

Dana is on this example block list. Change Dana's details the way someone might at checkout and watch whether Bouncely still matches. This runs the same matching rules as the app.

Names are opt-in. Another customer can have the same name, so Block customer on an order or customer page leaves name unchecked, and Bouncely warns you when a name is the only detail.

Units are your choice. An address blocked with its unit blocks only that unit. Remove the unit and every unit at that street address is blocked.

New details won't match. Someone with a different email, phone and address isn't recognized. Bouncely doesn't guess, score buyers, or block by IP address, VPN or country.

Where Bouncely checks, and where it doesn't

Shopify runs Bouncely's check during online checkout, before payment. Orders created any other way aren't checked.

Checked before paymentSomeone on your list sees your message.

  • Online store checkout
  • Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal
  • The cart
  • Draft orders
  • B2B checkout

Not checkedThese orders go through.

  • Point of sale (POS)
  • Subscription renewals
  • Orders created by other apps or marketplace imports
  • Edits to existing orders

Your own draft orders count too. The check can't tell who started a checkout, so a draft order you create for someone on your list is blocked. Unblock them first.

Built so a block list can't break your checkout

The questions that stop most merchants from installing a blocking app, answered by how Bouncely behaves.

Checkout stays open.

Bouncely installs its checkout rule so that orders go through whenever the check can't run. A block list can stop the people on it. It can never stop your whole store.

See what a block would have stopped, and who tried since

Past-order matches, on every planRight after you block someone in Bouncely, Home shows how many of their orders from the last 60 days the block would have stopped.

Block log, on BasicWho on your list tried to check out, which kinds of detail matched, and when. It never shows what they typed.

A count, on FreeFree shows how many checkouts Bouncely stopped in the last 30 days. Basic shows who and when.

The example admin screen shows a banner saying Dana Ruiz is blocked and 2 orders from the last 60 days would have been stopped, and a Stopped at checkout list with three example entries.

Checkout compares fingerprints, not your customers' details

Your list reaches checkout as fingerprints: short codes made from each detail and a random key that belongs to your store. Checkout makes codes the same way from what the buyer typed and compares them inside Shopify.

Tidied
danaruiz@gmail.com
Fingerprint (example store key)
EVoDMfS4

Same fingerprint as dana.ruiz@gmail.com on the example list, so checkout would match it.

  • Unblocking deletes

Unblock someone and Bouncely deletes every detail it held about them, along with their block log entries.

  • The log forgets

Block log entries keep who on your list tried and which kinds of detail matched. They're deleted after 90 days.

  • Silent unless it blocks

The checkout pixel sends nothing for checkouts Bouncely didn't stop. For ones it did, it sends the buyer's details only as fingerprints. It sets no cookies and runs no ads.

  • Your decision, every time

Bouncely doesn't score buyers or block anyone by itself. Every block is your choice about one person.

Fingerprints aren't the details themselves, but anyone holding your store's key could check a guess against one, so Bouncely treats them as personal data.

Questions merchants ask first

Does it block people in my retail store?

No. Bouncely checks online checkout only. Point of sale, subscription renewals, orders created by other apps or marketplace imports, and edits to existing orders aren't checked.

Does it stop Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal?

Yes. Those accelerated checkouts are checked before payment, the same as the regular checkout.

What does a blocked buyer see?

Your message, at checkout, before they can pay. The default reads "We can't accept this order. Please contact us if you think this is a mistake." You can change it in Settings. It never says which detail matched.

Will Bouncely stop chargebacks?

Not on its own. It stops people you've blocked from paying you again through online checkout. It doesn't detect fraud, score buyers or block anyone you haven't chosen.

What if someone comes back with completely new details?

Then they won't match. Bouncely recognizes common variations of the details you blocked, such as Gmail dots or a name typed backwards, not a new email, phone number and address. Blocking every detail you have gives it the most to match on.

Does it block by IP address, VPN or country?

No. Bouncely blocks specific people by email, phone, name, shipping address or Shopify customer account.

What happens if Bouncely is down?

Checkout stays open and orders go through. The checkout rule lets orders through whenever the check can't run.

Can I unblock someone?

Yes. Open them from your block list and choose Unblock. Bouncely deletes everything it held about them, and they can check out again.

What happens when I reach the Free limit?

You can't add a fourth person until you upgrade to Basic or unblock someone. Nobody already on your list is unblocked.

Start with the order that ended in a chargeback

Install Bouncely, open the disputed order and choose More actions › Block customer.
